Stories ‘n Stones – Storyteller, Marilyn Kinsella, and Experimental Archaeologist, Larry Kinsella, offer several programs that combine adventure stories with the art of primitive technology:

 

bulletStories ‘n Stones Skunny Wundy and the Stone Giant lead in to the stone weapons and tools replicated and used by Larry Kinsella. The Whistling Tsonaqua’s and a Q& A are included in the hour program. Study sheets available for schools.
bullet Bringing the Light Grandmother Spider Brings the Light is followed by several ways man has made and used fire from ancient to modern times. Baby Leopard and a Q&A conclude this hour program.
bullet Stories ‘n Stones Along the Expedition Trail – The local legend of The Piasa is followed with a demonstration of the technologies of the Native Americans and Lewis Clark as they met during their historic expedition. The Whistling Tsonaqua’s and a Q&A conclude the hour program. Study Sheets available for schools.
bulletNEW THIS YEAR - Ishi: Stone Age Super Hero – the true story of Ishi, the last of the Yahi Indians, is followed by a demonstration of the skills that Ishi taught modern man. The end of Ishi’s life, reference materials, and a Q&A conclude this hour program.      POSTER      STUDY GUIDE
bullet Megalithics – As an experimental archaeologist, Larry Kinsella offers demonstrations, lectures, and hands-on activities for Elementary-age audiences through Adults.  (30-minutes to full day)

“Going Ape Over Super Heroes” Samantha (ape lap puppet) in Spider Man outfit tells spider jokes and introduces the legendary African superhero, Anansi the Spider. Marilyn tells fun, participatory Anansi stories. The program concludes with a 15-minute one-person puppet play about Anansi. (Pre-school to 3td grade)

“Ishi: Stone Age Superhero” - Stories ‘n Stones (storyteller, Marilyn, and experimental archaeologist, Larry) team up once again to present the true story of Ishi, the last of the Yahi Indians, with a demonstration of primitive skills that Ishi left to modern man.   (Elementary school age and family)     ISHI POSTER

“Dragons ‘r Us” Samantha (ape lap puppet) dressed like a princess gorilla tells jokes and introduces dragon stories including The Paper Bag Princess by R. Munsch. The program concludes with a 15-minute, original, one-person puppet play called The Frog Princess - a fun, fractured version of the old story with a princess, a dragon, a witch, a wizard and a most unlikely hero! (Pre-School – 3td grade)

“Here Be Dragons” – Dragon tales from the Medieval to the Mid-West. Stories include St. George and the Dragon by M. Hodges and the local legend of The Piasa.  (Elementary and Family)

                                                                                BIOS

                                                                        

Since 1981, Marilyn Kinsella from Fairview Heights, IL, has been telling stories. Her collection of hundreds of stories includes: personal experiences, folk tales, literary stories and historical tales. Her style has been described as "animated." She uses "word imaging" to color enhance the story. She is also a puppeteer with over 30 original puppet plays that she performs in her one-person puppet stage.

 

                                                                                                

Larry Kinsella, with over 30 years in archaeology, presents hands-on programs in experimental archaeology to schools, libraries, and civic organizations around the country. He offers classes in spear-throwing with the atlatl, flintknapping, cordage, and pottery. He also offers classes to introduce students to other primitive skills. Larry stresses that primitive skills are not only attributable to Native Americans but are also part of the heritage of all of us.
