                      May Memories

At our monthly meeting we had a lot of business to attend to. We discussed going on a "field trip" in August again. Stephanie Rhein has the lead in "Misery" - a play based on the Stephen King novel. Marilyn Kinsella's daughter, Amy, is the director. It will be on Saturday, August 19. The plan includes meeting at a local restaurant ahead of time and then going to the play. More info later.

We discussed whether or not to have a summer picnic and never made a decision. So, by executive decision, we decided to have the picnic in July and forgo meeting at Bob's until September (we are still meeting there in June!!). Patty Carleton offered her home in St. Louis as a possible site for the picnic. The membership will discuss her generous offer at the June meeting.

Lucy Grondahl is working with the committee for the National Conference. Riverwind, Gateway, and Mo-Tell have representatives on the planning committee. They are holding a fund raiser on June 27. They are holding a Trivia Night and asked if Riverwind could help in any way. We will try to get a table to go. The tickets are $10.00 and a table is from 6-10 people. Marilyn Kinsella volunteered to do the 50/50 and will donate a basket with comp tickets for Misery and a copy of the book,  dinner at Applebees and some Funny Bone passes. She will also gather a basket from Riverwind with a Riverwind Sweatshirt, a 1/2 hour donated storytime, an Applebee's coupon, a candle, and a couple of CD's. If anyone has anything to add, please bring it to the meeting in June. Here's the info:www.trivianights.net

27th Annual St. Louis Storytelling Festival

The three year "Legacy of a Journey came to an end on Saturday evening at the Touhilll Performing Arts' Center at UMSL.  In my history of the festival this one was one of the finest - from the weather to the tellers. It was FUN. I was so proud to see so many Riverwind tellers represented as tellers and volunteers.

At Nan Kammann's party everyone expressed delight with the Riverwind basket. Thanks to everyone who contributed:

Kudo's to Rhonda (Lynne Beetner's daughter) for the beautiful handmade basket.

Ron Adams for the DVD player

The Riverwind members who gave books, tapes and other "fillers."

Note from editor: Several people commented on the emceeing that I did on Saturday night. Since some of you asked, I put some of the thoughts I used on a web page. If you'd like to read the intros, you can click on "Marilyn As Emcee." I normally don't care for big audiences in a formal theatre setting but, somehow, this year it worked. I thought the evening was magical.

               DATES

June Meeting Night - June 14th at The Rendezvous across the street from Bob's Rib Shack in Hartford. Bob will cater our food. We want to pay Bob a minimum of $100.00. If we have 10 or more in attendance the charge will be $10.00 and that includes tax and tip. However, if fewer than 10 show up, we will change each person just enough more to make up the deficit. This is the fairest way we could figure the cost.

Directions:

Here's part of the response I received from Naomi Baltuck "...I am very happy about coming out to St. Louis, and the timing is great.  I have just finished the recording of another CD of story stretches, and signed a contract with August House for another book of story stretches to be released next spring.  I hope that it will be available to participants."

Thank you again for this invitation, Marilyn.  I am really looking forward to coming.

Sincerely,
Naomi

Barbara Freeman agreed to come the following year. I told her, if we could afford both her and Connie Regan-Blake, we'd like to have them both. I haven't talked to Connie about the possibility...waiting to see about our purse strings.

Phyllis Hostmeyer received confirmation that Riverwind can now give CPDU's to teachers who apply. Hopefully, this will give teachers added reason to attend our workshops! Thanks, Phyllis.
