Report
The Riverwind Whirlwind Weekend was jam packed with information on how to market oneself. Dianne de Las Casas proved to be a master marketeer as ideas poured forth. She gave many ideas but told us the three most important things on our to-do list should include: 1. Getting a good business card and/or postcard. 2. Get a website. 3. Produce an e-newsletter. Riverwind was happy to copy Dianne's very thorough marketing workbook. It held a treasure trove of ideas. At first, she had us take an inventory of the things we already do to market ourselves. At the end of the 5 1/2 hour workshop she told us to not become overwhelmed. Try to prioritize what we think is most important...and act on it (Ahh, there's the rub!). The concert Saturday night was a beautiful blend of Ron Adam's mesmerizing myths and Dianne's lively interpretation of folktales. Gwen Dake did a fitting tribute to Irene Eveland who died suddenly a week before the workshop. She told us of Irene's excellence and love of storytelling. She raised the bar and dared us to follow. Now that she is gone we will "carry the torch." Anyone wishing to make a donation in her name can to so by writing a check to "The St. Louis Storytelling Festival." Please put "Irene Eveland" memorial and "Riverwind" in the memo box and send it to Becky Walstrom St. Louis Storytelling Festival One University Blvd. St. Louis, MO 64121 Spiritual tales on Sunday were various tales from Chicken Soup to Biblical to Angels and Growing Up Catholic. Sunday's Riverwind Story Celebration had about 10-15 people attend besides those in the workshop. The Lewis and Clark Museum also did their darnest to make us comfortable. They found tables and very comfortable chairs for the workshop. The theatre was just the right size. It holds possibly up to a hundred rather easily. The only downsides are that they wanted us out by 9:00 each evening and the workshop room was snug with the tables and the 20 people in attendance. The other drawback was that there are no motels nearby. But, it was nice to have everything there at the museum. With Bob's catering it was very convenient. Bob, of Bob's Rib Shack in Hartford catered three meals. Several people commented it was the best food we've ever had - good down-home cookin' at a very reasonable price. Stephanie Rhein was our hostess. She made sure we had plenty of juice, coffee, sweets and, of course, water. She brought some beautiful "wed-wed woses" for the middle of the table. Thanks Stephanie!! The good news is yet to come from Mary Lu Bretsch at Wednesday night's meeting...Hint: What was lost has now been found. Speaking of the meeting... The February meeting at The Rendezvous Room in Hartford was a big hit with everyone in attendance. We were very impressed with Bob, his food, and his place. The room was quiet, the food was good and Bob bent over backwards to make sure we were happy. And we were!! We decided to meet there again in March. Keep in mind that Hartford is very accessible - only 4 miles north I-270 on Rt. 3 (the first IL exit). Somehow the evening started off with some joke-telling with just a hint of blush. Then Gwen told one her personal stories from her rich history in this area. Ron Adams told the Bible story about Adam and Eve, but with a unique, kinder/gentler view of Eve. After all, how many times have we fallen prey to "Trust me."
