Time sure flies...even faster than when we are in high school! Since we last touched base, many good things have transpired. The good news is that donations and pledges have been coming in. What seemed, at first, like an unattainable idea...is now a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. Melanie Grimm recently sent out a mailing to our database. Here is more information on how you can make this dream happen:

Letter of Appeal to AND ALUMS

Levels of Giving

Vision 2009 Letter of Intent

“Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail”                                          Emerson

We were saddened, yet rejoice, to hear that Connie Gass Kinsella, Class of 1933, passed on to her heavenly reward. Her life exemplified what it meant to be a graduate of the Academy. Her life was dedicated to helping her family, her community, and her church. She wrote about some of her experiences on the AND website. Click HERE to read about her days at the Academy. We are grateful that Connie became a "Crusader" even after her passing by leaving a $7500.00 legacy to Althoff in the name of the Academy. Besides her sisters, Connie's daughter, JoAnn Kinsella Nadler, Class of '65, graduated from AND.

There is another way to donate to future projects in the name of the Academy, When you go to a funeral and the family requests that you make "a donation of one's own choice," why not make that donation to the Althoff building fund in the name of the Academy? When a classmate passes, it would be nice to remember them with a donation to the fund, as well. Remember, that after we secure the naming rights, we have other goals to reach.

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”     Eleanor Roosevelt

                  Melanie Grimm

Melanie Grimm: We are looking for some photographs of Notre Dame girls . We are getting naming rights to a room at Althoff via their Capital Campaign, and it will represent the alums of the Academy!!! Let Marilyn Kinsella markinsella19@hotmail.com  or Melanie Grimm know if we can borrow them to look at. Plan is to enlarge them and frame them to hang in the AND room!!

I've been in contact with my biology teacher from the early 1960's -  Sr. Carol Marie Wendt. She now resides at the motherhouse in Ripa. She did a wonderful power point presentation on the Academy throughout its many years. She sent the power point to me, and we hope to show it at the next gathering.

While talking to her, she told me that the statues of Fatima that graced the Academy vast front courtyard are now at St. Henry's in Belleville. I looked at some websites and found a picture with the statues:

Welcome to St. Henry's Website

This is our home on the Internet.  Here you will find the latest news and information about St. Henry's.

However, we are still looking for the grotto statue of Our Lady. If anyone has information, please let us know.

The first meeting of the AND Alums discussed many items. Here is a follow-up on our first goals.

  • Claiming naming rights for a new room at Althoff High School. Donations and Pledges are coming in. Please consider a donation.
  • It was decided to try hold more all-year functions to encourage participation. The next gathering will be September 18th 2010, in the afternoon- hopefully at our AND Room at Althoff.
  • The possibility of setting up a scholarship fund. Still in progress
  • Setting up an AND website with its own domain name and using the webpages that are on this site. At this point it is not feasible to open a website with our own domain name. We will keep the webpages on this site.
  • Setting up a database with as many emails of former students that wish to be on the list. Melanie has gathered hundreds of emails. If you know someone who is not receiving this e-newsletter, please contact her. If you work on a reunion and have emails for your year, please pass the list on.

Anyone reading this, who would like to have their email address added to a master list of former AND graduates, please contact Melanie Grimm (Wondolowski) at andso72@yahoo.com  Please include your current name, the name while at AND, and the year you graduated.

Remember your pointed collar should be in alignment with the pointed sleeves! And... that hemline looks like it won't touch the ground while kneeling.

             Show your AND Spirit!!

Cheer, cheer for Old Notre Dame

Wake up the echoes cheering her name,

Send the volley cheer on high,

Shake down the thunder from the sky!

Do you have reunion news?

How about some pictures?

Do you have any current news that you would like to share on this e-newsletter?

Do you have some memories/pics of your class that were unique?

Would you share them?

This website will grow with your memories!! Please contact Marilyn Niemann Kinsella (class of 1965) at markinsella19@hotmail.com for comments.

When you come across those old pics, send 'em my way. Who knows how that old snap will spark some memory.

The Class of 1965 will celebrate their 45th Class reunion on Saturday, September 18, 2010, from 6-11. Place TBA. It is the evening of the All-Alum Gathering. You can make it a day of memories! Contact Barb Johnson, if you are not on the mailing list. barb@jpisites.com

Mary K Ward

Hi to All, Like others, I am new to Facebook and got on just to try to find a few high school & college friends and to try to catch up on their lives. I am Katie Ward now but was Kathleen Burns when I was at AND, Class of '64. I see a couple of others from that class and look forward to connecting with them.... I have been in the Chicago area since 1968 but get back to the St. Louis area a couple of times of year to visit family. They mostly all live in MO now. I am looking forward to reconnecting and to learning about former classmates on Facebook.

Marnie Braun

Hi, Guys, this is Marian Gashgarian, now Marian ( Marnie) Braun. I graduated in 1964. I live in Shell Knob, MO 63 miles SW of Springfield, MO. Would love to come to one of the get-togethers -- so schedule one over a weekend. I own and operate Meadowbrook Equestrian Center. Here, I give riding lessons, clinics, shows, board and train. We do dressage, eventers and hunter jumper horses. We also raise the Irish Warmbloods and Irish Sporthorses. Yes, I still ride every day. It keeps you young! Come and see me if you are ever near Table Rock Lake. We are about 40 miles from Branson around the other side of the lake. I am on Facebook - just look up Marnie Braun.      Marnie

Mary Ellen Sliment

Mary Ellen Sliment

Hi Everyone! This is Mary Ellen Sullivan Sliment - so now you have both of the Mary Ellen's from the class of 1965! I've only been on FB for about 6 months, but I've found it to be a great way to keep in touch with all my family & friends across the US. I was widowed 1 1/2 years ago. I have lived... in St. Louis for over 40 years and 2 of my daughters - Laura and Karen - live nearby. My daughter, Anne and her husband, Jeff, live in Chicago and I just learned in July that they are expecting their first baby in February - my 10th grandchild. My oldest just started high school. Some of my favorite things to do are, naturally, hanging with the children and watching their sports, golf, hiking, bowling, reading, geocaching and travel. My mother (she's almost 87) and I are going to Italy & Greece next month - can't wait.

Kathy Crismon

Kathy Cassin Crismon

Hi Everybody ~This is Kathy (Cassin) Crismon, class of `64. I live in the west end of Belleville (some of us haven't traveled far from the homeland.) After 13 years in a super job in Marketing with the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, my position was eliminated in recent months. The job search situation in today's economy is lots of fun (which I hope no one else has the joy of experiencing.) If anyone knows of an opportunity, contact me at kscrismon@yahoo.com - Would love to hear from you!

Or you can contact me anyway just to say hi & catch up!

All Facebook users: There is now an Academy of Notre Dame, Belleville, IL group. Check it out and join in on the conversation and updates. Just click the group icon at the bottom of your home page to find it. You can post on the wall that is there, but others have to go onto the site to read it. However, I found a nifty way to write to all the members, and the post shows up in their email! Just go to the left side of the page towards the top. There is a list of commands. One is "message to all members". Just click on that to write and your message will go the members' email boxes. However, if you wish, you can also post it on the Wall. Hope to see you there!!                   Marilyn

The Class of 1954 recently had their 50th Class Reunion. I was hoping for a report with some pictures. Please share. I'd love to show them in the next issue. Anyone??

Does this bring back memories? The Living Rosary was always the highlight of our spring. Can you guess what year this was? Click HERE for the answer
