SATURDAY, November 11th at 7:00 p.m.
The Spoken Word Cafe will present it's next program at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday,
November 11th, at Stage Left, the Woodstock Opera House annex.
The date is Veterans Day and the theme and stories for the evening will honor veterans.
Joy Aavang, author of three books containing the oral histories/personal memories of veterans from WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, and Desert Storm, including the book, Fly the Flag for Me, will relate the stories of several veterans from her books.  Included among  them will be the story of the Woodstock veteran who gave her the inspiration for the book’s title.

Also on tap for the evening is Gail Worley Permenter, author of the book
Colonel Worley's Quarters, Gail Speaking,
a biographical account of her father's military career and her own recent return to Vietnam to locate and grieve at the spot at which her father was killed. General Worley was the highest ranking US Air Force officer (Major General) to be killed in action in Viet Nam.
Jim May, artisitc director of Stage Left Cafe, will be on tour on Hawaii. And so, the evening will be hosted by Steve Aavang. Steve will also tell the remarkable stories of a former boss who was shot down over Romania while on a bombing mission in WWII and of his introduction of Aavang to a Princess.  Princess Catherine Caradja (then 95), of Romania, led an amazing life of one hundred years during which, among other achievements, she helped rescue 1400 US POW’s who had been shot down and imprisoned in Romania.  Later she came to America to seek these POW’s out and thank them each for their sacrifices in the name of Freedom.Aavang is currently working on a book about this unique woman entitled
In Love With Freedom.
Several other local veterans have been invited to tell their stories of service to their country.

Don't miss this remarkable evening honoring
