At the August board meeting a lot of work was accomplished and discussion ensued on several issues. Some of the highlights included: Trying to get credits lined up with a university for those attendees who might be interested; implementing fringe concerts; ways to encourage youth participation in concerts and workshops: schedule for the conference and selection of intensives and workshops. Topics were discussed for the November board meeting being held in Michigan.

The National Storytelling Network is holding the 2007 Storytelling Conference in St. Louis this year. Many of our I'll. Tellers are involved in presenting workshops.

Beth Horner ,Susan O’Halloran  Jim May

NSN made a special exception to the rule about the regional tellers and allowed IL storytellers from the Greater St. Louis area to apply - especially, since many of the people helping to put on the conference were from the Metro-St. Louis area.  I'll. Teller  Phyllis Hostmeyer was selected to tell her "RAP-pun-zel. "

Do you have a teacher friend...this book will make a great Christmas present as an excellent addition to his or her personal library.

                  From Tim Sheppard -

The [very old] poem Moonlight on the West River says, "of the many crafts in the world, the most difficult is storytelling. It is not easy to master the skills of commentary, narration, speech and acting, as well as having to memorize many lines. To begin with, the performer should have a sonorous voice, and possess the ability to control the tonal rhythm. An artist must be well versed in both cultivated language and martial arts, just as if he or she was performing a one-person play."

The event is free, though reservations are required as seating is limited. Call BAAC at 847-382-5626 for reservations. TELLABRATION! is a night of storytelling celebrated world-wide the Saturday before Thanksgiving.  It began in 1988 at six sites in Connecticut and has grown exponentially.  Last year, Tellabration! events were held on every continent except Antarctica and has grown to include events all weekend long.  Tellabration! celebrates the intimate power of a story told to create community among strangers.

The Barrington Area Arts Council's StoryBistro has been a successful, monthly event of stories for adult audiences for several years. "Partnering with the Fox Valley Storytelling Guild in bringing TELLABRATION! to Barrington fits in so perfectly with our current StoryBistro schedule, because we continue to bring in the best, most entertaining, and widest variety of stories and storyteller styles to to our audiences," said Gregory Leifel, StoryBistro host and BAAC Board President. "The Fox Valley Storytelling Guild is one of the most respected storytelling guilds in the country, and their members are also known for their dedication to continuing to develop new stories. We are particularly excited as they've chosen to combine music with the stories this year to further enhance the audience experience."

The November 18th event will feature Guild members and special musical guests celebrating an age-old folk tradition of stories combined with music for today's listeners.  "It will be a night to celebrate the arts and to enjoy the unexpected surprises that come when you mix 'em up," said Sue Black, Fox Valley Guild member and Tellabration! organizer. "Expect the unexpected," says co-producer Donna Dettman, "as our storytellers and musicians improvise throughout the event." Featured performers for the evening include fresh new faces Donna Dettman and Debi Gajewski and some of the Story Bistro's old favorites; Sue Black, The Double Deckers, Vicki Elberfeld, and Lainie Levin, joined by musicians Geary Smith and friends. Gregory Leifel hosts the event.
