2006 NORTHLANDS NEW VOICES APPRENTICE CHALLENGE

Madison, WI - April 28-30,2006

 

Criteria

·        Young adults ages 18-29. Graduated or no longer attending high school.

·        Must be interested in using storytelling in their respective fields. (e.g. education, psychology,

museum educator, environmental educator, healing arts, law, religion, business, theatre, etc.

·        Must provide own transportation to/from conference and cover any personal expenses beyond the scholarship.

 Items covered are detailed below.

·        Must be willing to share a room with 2-3 other apprentices.

·        Must be willing to donate four hours of service during the conference.

 

Why the challenge? 

·        To diversify the age demographic of conference.

·        To continue the work that many members have done with youth. 

·        To encourage the potential of storytelling to seep into other fields.

 

How will the challenge work? 

 

·        Northlands Storytelling Network will offer up to four New Voices Apprentice working scholarships

 to qualifying applicants.

·        Apprentice scholarships will be for $250 in fees covering:

o       Early-bird full conference registration for Saturday-Sunday, April 29-30, 2006.

o       Shared lodging Friday and Saturday, April 28 & 29, 2006 at the Edgewater Hotel.

o       Admission to Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon concerts.

o       Conference meals Saturday breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday breakfast.

o       Friday Pre-Conference registration fee and lunch are not included.

·        Each Apprentice is to submit an application form indicating: Why he/she wants to attend the conference,

how storytelling can be used in his/her field, birth date, what he/she expects to gain from the conference,

storytelling experience.

·        Applications should be sent to Judy Sima at Judy@JudySima.com, or 7433 Parkdale,

West Bloomfield, MI 48322.  Deadline for applications:  March 1, 2006.

·        Northlands Board of Directors will judge application and determine scholarship winners.

Winners will be notified by March 30, 2006 and must register by April 15, 2006.

·        A guild, corporation, organization, or grant may sponsor additional Apprentices for the same fee

 and coverage.

·        Sponsoring organizations should contact Judy Sima with the names of the Apprentices they sponsor.

Sponsored Apprentices must register by the Early-Bird deadline.

 

Additional Information

·        At the conference, Apprentices will be paired with mentors, who will be available as guides

 and resources during the conference. 

·        Apprentices will be expected to work up to four hours during the conference.

Conference Chair and/or Northlands Executive Director will determine work assignments.
